Imaginary Portrait

Excerpt from The Life and the Agony, a film which you may or may not get to see in the next year or two.

EXT. vacant BEACH - late summer night

Andrews and Julie lie with one another under a blanket, looking at the stars.

ANDREWS
This is still insane to me.

JULIE
What is?

ANDREWS
You and me. I can't believe that I'm lying here with you and just so comfortable. If I was any better I'd feel guilty.

JULIE
I wish I could say things like you do. I'm so bad at expressing my feelings. The most I can say is that I love you.

ANDREWS
Well, I'll take that.

JULIE
I think that's why I like art so much. Words aren't needed.

ANDREWS
Well, how about you draw me how you feel in the air and then tell me about the picture.

JULIE
Heh, OK.

Julie, playfully serious, paints an imaginary portrait in the air as Andrews looks on.

JULIE
Alright, I'm done.

ANDREWS
Tell me about it. Being a simple man I find it too hard to understand what the artist is trying to say.

JULIE
Well, it's abstract and being so makes it extremely emotional. The artist chose to use brown and yellow primarily.

ANDREWS
Meaning?

JULIE
Well, the colors are likely important. Yellow traditionally means happiness or exuberance, and the brown could be the inevitable - the color that results when too many emotions are mixed. Together they blend beautifully, but it begs to ask if yellow is conquering brown or being absorbed by it.

ANDREWS
What do you think?

JULIE
Well, look for yourself.
